The Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club created a new event T-shirt for the 2020 Sanibel Shell Festival. There are men’s and women’s designs in several colors.
Club member Joe Timko designed the shirt with shells drawn as accurately as possible from specimens in the collection he and his wife Barb have amassed over the 24 years they have visited Sanibel. He found the Junonia pictured on the shirt on their honeymoon in 1998. The art was done electronically using several different programs. Since he had not ever drawn on the computer before he had to teach himself how to do it. Both are high quality 100 percent cotton T-shirts that will sell for $15 each.
One hundred percent of the profits from the T-shirt sales, like the other income from the Sanibel Shell Show, are given out in the form of grants to local marine science related programs and scholarships at the Marine Science Departments of the University of South Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University.
