Shell Islands Garden Club’s first 2024-25 season meeting will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Sanibel Community House. Anyone interested in island horticulture and gardening is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available, followed by a 10:30 a.m. presentation by island resident and garden club member, Frances Tutt.
Tutt will discuss her successful outcomes in growing vegetables and fruit on Sanibel. She has an extensive background in food science, having worked for many years in flavor development for major companies in the food and beverage industries. She will share her tips on how to grow edible plants in a tropical environment.
SIGC was founded in 1992 to study the art of floral arranging, to promote better horticultural practices, to encourage all phases of home gardening, and to help preserve our islands’ natural resources. The club is a Fort Myers/Lee County Garden Council member. SIGC meets on the second Tuesday morning of each month from October through May. Membership dues are $35 yearly.
