Single-Vehicle Crash on New Year’s Eve Causes Power Outage

A single-vehicle crash around 12:45 p.m. New Year’s Eve caused a water and power outage in the area of Casa Ybel Road and Sand Pebble Way. The driver, William Reece of Sanibel, was trapped inside the vehicle, but responding officers were able to remove him.

Reece was traveling south on Casa Ybel Road when his vehicle drifted to the right before it collided with a utility pole and the main water line to a nearby residence. The crash caused Reese’s vehicle to turn on its side. Officers shutdown Casa Ybel Road and redirected traffic due to the broken utility pole leaning over the roadway.

Lee County Electric Cooperative and Island Water responded to the scene for repairs. The Sanibel Fire & Rescue District, along with Lee County EMS, also responded and treated Reece at the scene.
