Swinging for Change: Sanibel Captiva United Way Tees Up for Community Support

by Bill Fellows, Sanibel Captiva United Way Committee Chairperson

The Sanibel Captiva United Way Committee is leading the charge in raising critical funds to support a wide range of local and countywide agencies. Through their tireless dedication and innovative fundraising initiatives, they are ensuring vital services remain accessible to those in need throughout Lee County.

At the heart of this year’s efforts is the inaugural Golf Tournament, a new event that hopes to highlight the community’s generosity and spirit. Held at one of the region’s premier courses, the tournament is expected to attract golfers, sponsors, and supporters from across Southwest Florida, all united by a common goal: to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who rely on United Way-funded programs.

“This Golf Tournament is going to be more than just a day of fun on the greens,” said Tony Lapi, Chair of the Sanibel Captiva United Way Committee. “It’s an opportunity for our community to come together and contribute to a cause that directly impacts families, seniors, and individuals throughout our region. Every dollar raised goes toward supporting agencies that provide essential services like food assistance, mental health resources, and education programs.”

Participants can look forward to a day filled with camaraderie, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to giving back. The tournament offers an enjoyable and impactful way for attendees to support the cause. The event will also feature an exciting lineup of activities, including contests, raffles, and prizes, all designed to maximize contributions to Sanibel Captiva’s Annual Community campaign.

In addition to the Golf Tournament, the Sanibel Captiva United Way Committee hosts various other events and initiatives throughout the year, each designed to engage the community and raise awareness about the critical needs addressed by United Way-supported agencies. Every activity put on by the committee helps to underscore their commitment to fostering a culture of giving on the islands and throughout Lee County.

The funds raised through the committee’s efforts are distributed to a network of nonprofit organizations that provide crucial services, including disaster recovery, youth development, healthcare access, and support for underserved populations. These agencies rely on United Way funding to meet growing demands, particularly in the aftermath of recent challenges faced by the region.

“It’s incredible to see the impact our community can make when we come together.” “Whether it’s through participating in our Golf Tournament, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every contribution helps us build a stronger, more resilient community.”
