Sanibel residents can begin picking up their mail Monday, Feb. 6, at a temporary trailer set up in the parking lot of the post office, 650 Tarpon Bay Rd.

The temporary Post Office will offer retail services and Post Office Boxes, as well as mail, package, and P.O. Box mail pickup. Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, closed Sunday.

The Postal Service is currently in the process of evaluating delivery points on Sanibel Island to determine the locations where residential and business mail delivery can be done safely. Until then, customers can pick up their mail at the new temporary Post Office. Signage will direct customers to the appropriate location for various services.

Sanibel customers will no longer need to travel to the Fort Myers Processing & Distribution Center, 14080 Jetport Loop, to obtain services.

As a reminder, customers must show a picture ID when picking up mail and packages.

“We appreciate the patience of our customers as we continue to recover from Hurricane Ian and restore service as quickly as possible,” USPS said in its statement.
