Three traffic accidents on Sanibel last week

Sanibel police investigated three vehicle accidents.

The first was in a parking lot in the 6400 block of Sanibel Captiva Road at 12:45 p.m. on August 15. A vehicle driven by Jillian Parzych of Chesterfield, VA reversed direction to allow room for another car to pull out of a parking space. In doing so she backed into a vehicle driven by David Richmond of Greensburg, PA. There was minor damage and no injuries were reported.

The second accident was at Casa Ybel and Periwinkle Way shortly after 8 a.m. on August 16. A vehicle driven by Maria Del Carmen of Miami was crossing Periwinkle toward the Jerry’s parking lot. Her vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Philip Baker of Cape Coral. He stated that he did not see Carmen’s vehicle due to a vehicle blocking his view in the turn lane. No injuries were reported.

The third incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on August 18 at the crosswalk at 1700 Periwinkle Way involving two Fort Myers drivers. A vehicle driven by Orestes Barreras stopped to allow a pedestrian to use the crosswalk. A vehicle towing a trailer driven by George Kovacs was not able to stop in time due to the weight of the vehicle and trailer. Sanibel Fire Department responded but all drivers and passengers involved refused medical treatment. The vehicle driven by Barreras was towed away due to damage sustained. Kovacs was issued a citation by officers for following too closely.
