Sanibel Police made two arrests for driving under the influence last weekend.
A London man was riding a bicycle in the early morning hours of Friday, April 29 south on Tarpon Bay Road, when an officer observed the bike without front or back lights. The officer made contact with the bicyclist, 28-year-old Aman Shah, who showed signs of impairment. Shah failed a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol level at 0.231. He was transported to the Lee County Jail and released that afternoon on a $500 bond.
Russell Galpin of Fort Myers was observed carelessly driving his vehicle on Periwinkle Way at 1 a.m. Saturday, April 30. Police conducted a traffic stop and Galpin showed signs of impairment. He failed a field sobriety test and declined to take a breathalyzer test. He was transported to the Lee County Jail and released later that morning on a $1,000 bond.
