Two Minor Vehicle Crashes, Hit-and-Run Reported

Three minor vehicle crashes, including a hit-and-run, were reported last week to Sanibel Police. Patricia Healey contacted police Sunday, March 1, to report her vehicle had been struck while it was parked at the Sanibel Public Library, 770 Dunlop Rd.

Healey found a note from witnesses on her vehicle that stated a vehicle was backing out of a parking space with its passenger door open when it struck her vehicle. Police located the driver and passenger of that vehicle, 69-year-old Warren Birgel, Jr. and 68-year-old Alison Birgel of Minneapolis, Minn. The couple admitted to the incident, but stated they were unaware of damage to Healey’s vehicle. Warren was cited for improper backing and failing to report a crash.

Beata Sajgo, 50, city unknown, was sitting in traffic in the 2000 block of Periwinkle Way at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, when the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Luis Ortiz, 39, Cape Coral. No injuries were reported.

City employee Jermaine Sear reported his work vehicle has been struck some time between 2:22 and 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29 while it was parked along Periwinkle Way near North Yachtsman Road. Sear told the officer he was approached by Naples Trolley driver Richard Bailey, 59, Naples, who stated he had struck the left side mirror of his vehicle.
