USPS Delivers Temporary Trailers For Sanibel Post Office

by SC Publisher Shannen Hayes

Two temporary trailers were delivered late Tuesday night to the parking lot of the damaged Sanibel Post Office on Tarpon Bay Road. The post office has been closed since Hurricane Ian struck four months ago, and island residents have been traveling to the US Postal Processing Center on Jetport Loop, Fort Myers, for their mail. That is at least a 45-minute drive one way. The USPS has not released a date when the trailers will be operational, stating more work needs to be done first.

It was initially reported USPS services would not resume on the island until late summer. In the meantime, a Mobile Retail Unit (MRU) has been set up in the Fort Myers Processing and Distribution Center parking lot, 14080 Jetport Loop, Fort Myers, to service Sanibel customers.

The MRU’s hours are as follows:
9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday
Closed Sundays
