
A Sanibel woman was arrested for driving under the influence, after her vehicle became partially submerged in the pond at Olde Sanibel Shoppes, 630 Tarpon Bay Rd. Police determined 66-year-old Catherine Cronin was traveling north in the parking lot at 6:44 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, when she drove over a concrete parking block and into the pond area.
Cronin told police she was on her way home, but didn’t know why she drove into the parking lot. Police found a wine bottle floating in the water near her vehicle and the wine cork in her vehicle. She failed a field sobriety test and was transported to the Lee County Jail, where her blood alcohol level was found to be just over twice the legal limit. Cronin was released from jail Thursday, Jan. 30, on a $500 bond.
A run-a-way trailer crashed into a home on Lindgren Boulevard. Ryan Durbin, 21, Cape Coral, was traveling south on Lindgren at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, when his trailer became detached from the vehicle, veered off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox.
The trailer continued southbound on the Shared Use Path, struck Comcast and Century Link junction boxes and a telephone pole. It then traveled up a driveway before crashing into the front of a home, creating a six-inch hole in a decorative wall on the left side of the garage. Durbin was issued a citation for load dropping.
Frank Wood, 51, Cape Coral, was traveling in the right turn lane of Causeway Boulevard at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, when a vehicle operated by Marcia Feeney, 74, Fort Myers, veered into his lane and struck the left side of his vehicle. No injuries were reported. Feeney was cited for careless driving.
Nancy Risch, 71, Sanibel, was traveling on Bailey Road at 12:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, when she stopped short for a bicyclist crossing the road and the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Yolande Welch, 92, Sanibel.
Diane Olsson, 81, Sanibel, was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 10:21 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, when she slowed for traffic and the back of her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Camron Jamaris-Nelson, 21, Fort Myers. No injuries were reported.
Kimberly Seeber, 43, Bloomington, Ind., was exiting the parking lot of Olde Sanibel Shoppes, 630 Tarpon Bay Rd., at 6:16 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, when her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Josephine Alwood, 77, Ferguson, Mo. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.
