Young Professionals Group Hosting Swap Shop Thrift Exchange

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The Sanibel Captiva Young Professionals is hosting a free swap shop thrift exchange from 5 to 7 p.m. May 14 at 2353 Periwinkle Way, to increase personal sustainability by trading goods instead of buying new. The production of new goods, especially textiles, requires a huge amount of resources and takes a toll on our already stressed planet.

At this event, the goal is to reduce that impact while encouraging secondhand shopping and fostering community. To take part, all you need to do is show up and get ready to shop. If you have goods you’re ready to part with, this is a great chance to give them a new home.

Gather what you would normally donate to a thrift store (only goods in usable condition, please) and bring it to our Swap Shop at 5 p.m. Once donated, the goods will be added to our “shop” for friends and neighbors to choose from. You do not need to bring donations to shop at the exchange, and no fees are required for entry or for the “purchase” of goods.

Goods to bring to the shop include:
• Clothing (adult and children’s)
• Don’t forget to include:
• Professional wear
• One-time special event wear (prom clothing, Halloween costumes)
• Accessories (backpacks, purses, jewelry, etc.)
• Books and music
• Art and small home decor
• Kitchenware and small appliances
• Sporting goods and gear
• Other items you think someone else may appreciate

Please refrain from bringing any goods that are too large to transport, or electronics or tech. that no longer function, food items, or stained/ damaged goods.

Please RSVP for the shop in advance at this link, and remember to bring a reusable bag or container to shop with.
