Bicyclist Hurt In Collision With Vehicle

Richard West of Sanibel was traveling east on Periwinkle Way Thursday, April 28, when he turned into the Sanibel Service Center parking lot and his vehicle struck a bicyclist traveling west on the Shared Use Path. Shelly Mossey of Cape Coral, the bicyclist, was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries and later released. West was found at fault and cited for careless driving.

Madeleine Gertsen of New Canaan, Conn., was traveling on Wulfert Road at 3:29 p.m. Monday, April 18, when her vehicle struck a tree. She told the officer she spilled water in the driver’s seat when the crash occurred. Gertsen, who received minor injuries, was cited for failure to drive in a single lane. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Helen Draper of Farmington, Mass., was backing her vehicle out of a resort parking space on East Gulf Drive when her vehicle struck the unoccupied vehicle of Jonathan Fox of Fort Myers.

Animal Reports
A fisherman snagged an anhinga Wednesday, April 27 while fishing. The bird was transported to the marina at Castaways Beach and Bay Cottages on Sanibel Captiva Road before being taken to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.
