The Captiva Civic Association will host several events in April, beginning with the final Porch and Patio party of the season Monday, April 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Captiva Civic Center, 11550 Chapin Lane, Captiva. The party includes cocktails and refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, and live entertainment from the band The Hot Buttered Nuggets.

The event is free and open to the public, thanks to sponsorship this season from Pfeifer Realty Group. Those wishing to attend should RSVP through the CCA website, www.ccacaptiva.org.

Another curated wine tasting with Calli Johnson will be held Monday, April 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. Food pairings to complement each wine will be provided by Chef Karl Hamme. Tickets are $30 per person for CCA members, $40 for nonmembers. Members may register through a link sent to their email. Nonmembers should use the link for Eventbrite found on the CCA website.
The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company is the sponsor for this season’s wine tastings.

Island Love Stories, an art exhibit featuring the photography of Roy Hoovis, continues to be on display at the Captiva Civic Center through April 28.

Hoovis is the owner and founder of a video and photography production company in Fort Myers called Old Sparky Productions, Inc. The show is a collection of his photos showcasing Captiva, Sanibel, and the islands around Pine Island Sound.

“The photos being shown are some of my favorites and mean so much more after Hurricane Ian,” Hoovis explains. “I look forward to the future but am glad to have a history of what was. Every picture tells a story.”

Hoovis will also donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of his work to help island organizations with hurricane recovery.

The gallery is usually open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or by appointment. Call the CCA at 239-472-2111 to confirm hours due to scheduled events throughout the season. Bank of the Islands is the 2023 sponsor for art exhibits at the CCA.
