Captiva Yacht Club, Fire Department Returning 48 Star Flag

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

In preparation for a major facility restoration, the Captiva Island Yacht Club, with the assistance of the Captiva Fire Department, arranged for the honorable folding of a 48 Star Flag which originally flew over President Abraham Lincoln’s gravesite in Springfield, Ill. The flag was given to the family of Gib Warren in memory of his grandfather by the Monument Association in 1953. Gib, in turn donated the flag to the Yacht Club in memory of Commodore Dale Hanson. The flag will be returned to the Historical Museum in Springfield, Ill.
