Clear Your Gear Receives Grant from LCEC

provided to Santiva Chronicle

Clear Your Gear received a grant from Lee County Electric Cooperative for production of 10,000 car stickers.

A non-profit environmental organization based on Sanibel, Clear Your Gear seeks to raise awareness that fishing gear can injure/kill unintended prey such as birds, reptiles and mammals, and to urge those who enjoy fishing to untangle tackle from vegetation and discard it responsibly. In addition, Clear Your Gear asks anglers not to cut the line if they hook an animal instead of a fish, but to try to take the affected animal to a wildlife hospital/veterinarian rather than let it go.

Clear Your Gear stickers, created by graphic designer Renny Severance, are free and available locally at The Bait Box, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, the Island Sun, Tarpon Bay Explorers and Norm Zeigler’s Fly Shop. Or, you may send a self-addressed #10 envelope with first class 1-ounce U.S. postage to Clear Your Gear, P.O. Box 1215, Sanibel, FL 33957 for 10 free stickers.

Visit the Clear Your Gear Facebook page for more information, and feel welcome to post relevant stories/photos on their public group page, Anglers who Care Clear their Gear.
