The FISH of SANCAP Smile Box program delivers baskets filled with small gifts, treats, and personal care items designed to bring comfort and joy to seniors living on Sanibel and Captiva.
“I am so loving this month’s smile box – it’s a WOW,” a recent Smile Box recipient shared. “I couldn’t wait to slather on lavender body lotion, eat a chocolate, and jump into my fabulous new word search book.”
“Oh yes, a happy lady here,” she expressed. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Big love and hugs to the FISH team.”
FISH recognized the challenges of aging, especially loneliness, and designed the Smile Box program to create moments of happiness and connection.
“The Smile Box is more than just a gift, it represents thoughtfulness, connection, and the reassurance that someone is thinking of them. Seniors in our community want to feel seen, heard, and valued,” said FISH Senior Services Director Erika Arnowitz.
FISH volunteers tailor-pack and deliver boxes filled with seasonal items, self-care products, activity books, and sweet treats each month. CAMEO grants and community support fund this program, which is increasing in popularity. Anyone interested in volunteering to pack Smile Boxes should contact FISH.
“While it may seem like a small gesture, it carries a big message—that someone cares, that they are not forgotten,” said Arnowitz. “We see time and again how much joy these boxes bring, and that’s why this program is so important.”
