Harry Chapin Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in Southwest Florida, will hold a food distribution event for Sanibel and Captiva islands on June 14 in partnership with The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation. The food distribution will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road on Sanibel.

Harry Chapin Food Bank will distribute food kits and fresh produce during the event. People that live, work or attend school on Sanibel and Captiva islands are eligible for food assistance.

The distribution is part of a $50,000 grant from The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation.

“We are grateful for the support of The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation, which is committed to ensuring children and families have access to healthy food during the summer months,” said Richard LeBer, the president and CEO of Harry Chapin Food Bank. “The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation is committed to supporting nonprofits that make a positive impact in the lives of people living and working on Sanibel and Captiva islands. We are honored they have chosen to partner with the Harry Chapin Food Bank to help make a difference in this hard-hit community.”

Harry Chapin Food Bank works closely with partner agencies across its five-county region to ensure that community members in need have access to healthy food all year round. Each year, the food bank, as well as its partner agencies, see an uptick in need during the summer months, particularly among children and families, because school is out.
