John David Lucht

John David Joseph Lucht passed away on September 3, 2023, at his home in Henderson, Nevada.

Born in Madison, Indiana to John E & Lydia Lucht on August 23, 1936, John David graduated from Madison High School in 1954 and attended Bellarmine College in Louisville Kentucky. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Louie B. Nunn in 1971. John David’s parents had purchased the Madison Hillside Inn in 1935, and John David worked at his parents’ establishment until he moved to Captiva Island, Florida at the beginning of 1980.

John David and Sherry were married on the island June 7, 1986, and lived the island life for another 25 years. Known as ‘Captiva John’ he worked at Chadwick’s Restaurant at South Seas Plantation Resort from 1980-1987 then obtained his realtor’s license and worked with Priscilla Murphy Real Estate. He enjoyed fishing, exploring the islands, boating, shelling and taking in the sunset. After Sherry’s daughter gave birth to Sherry’s grandson, the pair retired to Henderson, Nevada in 2011.

John David is survived by Sherry, his wife of 37 years, her daughter, Melissa and grandson, Ryan. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jo Lucht Schlomann, six children from his first marriage, Mark, Julie, Jennifer, Michael, Jodi and John, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future if a service is scheduled.
