Henry Zimmerman, 49, of Sanibel was observed driving on the wrong side of the road at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 and a traffic stop was conducted at Periwinkle Way and Causeway Boulevard. Zimmerman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and felony possession of THC liquid. He was booked into the Lee County Jail and released on an $11,000 bond.
Terry Clunk of Cape Coral was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 2:38 p.m. Saturday, April 2, when he stopped for traffic and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Olivia O’Keefe of Fort Myers. No injuries were reported.
Margaret Hupfeldt of Sanibel was baking out of a parking space at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7 at Bailey’s General Store, 2477 Periwinkle Way, when her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Carole Jarich of Mukwonago, Wisc. No injuries were reported.
Animal Reports
Two iguanas were sighted March 31 and April 1 in the backyard of a home in the Lake Murex neighborhood.
Two coyotes were sighted April 3 in the area of Wulfert and Dinkins Lake roads.
A possibly injured raccoon was reported April 4 on Sabal Palm Drive. The raccoon could not located by the responding officer and the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife was contacted.
Several iguanas were reported April 4 digging holes near the foundation of a home on Blue Heron Drive.
A homeowner on Rabbit Road reported a six-foot alligator suns on the banks behind the home and sometimes comes into the yard. An officer checked the back of the residence on April 5 and did not see the alligator. The homeowner was then educated on how to protect his family from alligators in the area.
An officer removed a rat snake April 6 from the lanai of a home on Kittiwake Drive in The Dunes neighborhood. It was relocated to a more safe place in its natural habitat.
Iguanas were reported April 7 digging holes near the pool and seawall area at Shell Harbor on Lindgren Boulevard.
Three adult coyotes were sighted April 7 on Bailey Road near the bay.
