Sanibel Police responded to nearly half dozen vehicle crashes in the past two weeks.
Maria Dubie of Washington, N.Y., was making a right turn from Bailey Road onto Periwinkle Way at 6:37 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, when the front of her vehicle collided with the right rear wheel of a vehicle operated by Ryan Rondina of Sanibel. No injuries were reported.
Hayden Norsworthy of Labelle, Fla., was traveling west on Periwinkle Way at 8:48 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 when he slowed to make a right turn onto Vinca Way and the back of his trailer was struck by a vehicle operated by Edward Jayne of Sanibel. The westbound lane of Periwinkle Way was closed for 22 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Scott Billings of Naples, Fla., was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 12:29 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 when he stopped for traffic and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Robert Butterfield of Sanibel. Butterfield told officers he was changing music on his phone and unaware traffic had stopped.
Victor Garcia of Fort Myers was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 4:44 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 when he stopped for traffic and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Sarah Good of New Preston, Conn. Good told officers she had looked down for a second when her vehicle struck Garcia’s vehicle. Good was cited for following too closely.
Two witnesses flagged down an on-duty police officer at Gulfside City Park at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 and reported a vehicle backed into a parked vehicle belonging to Brian Moure of Tampa, Fla., before leaving the scene. A search for the suspected vehicle was conducted, but was not located.
