provided to Santiva Chronicle

The City of Sanibel in partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University will hold a public workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss the outcomes of a collaborative study on the island’s vulnerability due to sea-level rise and storminess, which was finalized in the fall of 2019.

Dr. Michael Savarese, of FGCU, in coordination with City Natural Resources staff. Dr. Savarese will give an overview of the SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats), as well as the results of the beach profile study, and next steps. Following the presentation, there will be time for questions and answers.

Additionally, an update and overview of the Southwest Florida Regional Resiliency Compact and next steps regarding this effort will be provided.

For any questions, contact Joel Caouette, Environmental Specialist with the City’s Natural Resources Department at (239) 472-3700 or joel.caouette@mysanibel.com
