The streets of Sanibel Island will be dressed to thrill the month of October, when the SanCap Chamber throws its inaugural Sanibel Spooktacular Halloween Contest & Best in Boo Awards. Oct. 1 through Nov. 1, the chamber encourages island businesses to decorate their storefronts and properties in the spirit of the season. Chamber members will be eligible for the Best in Boo Awards in categories like spookiest, most fun, best storefront, and best of show.
During the month, islanders and regional visitors will stop by decorated stores, restaurants, and other places of business plotted on a special handout map available at the chamber and throughout the island. They can vote for their favorite decorations on the map to turn in by 5 p.m. Oct. 29. Those who visit 10 or more island places on the map are eligible for a drawing for a basket full of prizes provided by all participating businesses.
The Best in Boo Awards takes place Friday, Oct. 30, at The Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, 5 to 7 p.m. as part of its Annual Fall Festival. Festivities will include family activities like face-painting, a costume contest, corn hole, a dunk tank, and other bewitching fun. Check sanibelcommunityhouse.net for up-to-date information.
“We expect island spirit to be at its most ‘spirited’ during this first-of-its-kind island event, meant to bolster commerce throughout the month,” said John Lai, chamber president and chief executive officer. “The excitement already begins to build as the competition for best-dressed business kicks off.
