Starting Monday night, October 12, 2026, the City of Sanibel’s design engineering firm will be conducting geotechnical coring work on arterial and collector roads. The work is anticipated to be completed within one week, weather permitting.
This information will be used to evaluate road conditions for future roadway improvement projects. Each coring location shown on the aerial images will take up to thirty minutes to complete. The following is the anticipated work plan:
Monday, 10/12 to Tuesday, 10/13 (Night work from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM) – Coring work located on Causeway Boulevard, Periwinkle Way, Palm Ridge Road, and Sanibel-Captiva Road.
Wednesday 10/14 to Friday 10/16 (Day work from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM) – Coring work located on East Gulf Drive, Lindgren Boulevard, Middle Gulf Drive, Donax Street, Bailey Road, Dixie Beach Boulevard, Casa Ybel Road, Tarpon Bay Road, West Gulf Drive, Rabbit Road, West Gulf Drive and Bowman’s Beach Road.
To keep workers and motorists safe, lane closures will be in effect. Flaggers and signage will be on-site to direct traffic and minimize disruptions.
Crews will make every effort to minimize inconvenience to the public, but vehicular traffic will be limited to one lane in the immediate work area. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times. Users of the roads mentioned above should plan on additional travel time when traveling around the Island. The public is reminded to DRIVE SLOWLY and CAUTIOUSLY through the areas when workers are present.
