Sanibel City Council Candidates Speaking At Public Forum

The League of Women Voters of Sanibel will host a Public Candidate Forum from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at BIG Arts, 900 Dunlop Rd., for the March 7 Sanibel General Election. Four candidates have been certified to run for two open City Council seats.

The Candidates Forum is an in-person event at the BIG ARTS auditorium and the doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for the forum. The public is welcome and urged to attend. For residents not able to attend in person, the forum will be live-streamed on Facebook and also will be recorded for later viewing.

The four candidates for the two City Council seats are Richard Johnson, Jude Sincoskie, Holly Dineen Smith, and Troy Cobb Thompson. The Forum moderator will be Professor Roger Green, head of the Florida Gulf Coast University Political Science Department. The questions will be posed in a balanced way, including ample time for questions from the audience.

It is the mission of the League of Women Voters of Sanibel to encourage informed and active participation in government. League-hosted events have been held in high regard for their use of tried and true best practices.

Sanibel registered voters who intend to vote in this municipal election must re-enroll for not only this Sanibel election but for all elections through the 2024 general election.

Vote-by-Mail requests for this election must be done by Feb. 25. Voters can enroll or re-enroll online at www.lee.vote or by calling 239-533-8683.
