Sanibel Council Briefs: Draft Legislation Discussed

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

The Sanibel City Council on August 20 held discussions of two items of draft legislation that were then scheduled for first readings by unanimous 5-0 votes.

• The first was a change in the Contracts and Purchases provision to raise the limit to a high ceiling of $50,000, and to eliminate the local vendor preference to be consistent with federal law.
• The second was to decrease the number of trustees to the General Employees’ Retirement Plan to five, three of which would be City Council appointed, and two to be elected by the Plan membership.

Council also made several appointments:

• Bernard Arroyo, Chris Denick, Kyle Sweet, and Wendy Walker to the City of Sanibel Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee; and
• Iris Aloia to the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Citizen Advisory Committee.
