The SanCap Chamber is helping again to sponsor the Labor Day weekend Sanibel Island Sunrise Sale following a successive inaugural event last year. Saturday, Sep. 5, promises the dawn of another festive and cleverly lucrative morning for local early-rising shoppers, happening from 7:09 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participating retail shops will open precisely at sunrise to offer exclusive deals, tiered sales, up to 50 percent discounts, BOGOs, free gifts with purchases, and giveaways. In-store perks include complimentary breakfasts, mimosas, chair massages, and other incentives that make it worthwhile to lose a little sleep.
“Last year proved Sanibel residents and visitors were ready and eager to climb out of bed with the sun for the best deals and to support the community,” said John Lai, SanCap Chamber president and chief executive officer. “It turned out to be a fun, collaborative event that drove summer season traffic and gave shoppers a novel way to discover the island’s famed retail scene while shopping small and local. This year we’ve extended it by three hours.”
More than 40 shops across the Sanibel retail and restaurant landscape participated in last year’s Sunrise Sale map and passport. Shoppers receive a passport sticker from participating retailers they visit that day. Those with 10 or more stickers by 5 p.m. are eligible to enter drawings for three grand prizes including stays at island resorts The Anchor Inn, Tarpon Tale Inn, and the Shalimar Beach Resort, along with valuable gift certificates from various businesses like The Moke and Cabana Club and Adventures in Paradise Cruises.
The map-passports are available and returnable at the SanCap Chamber Visitor Center at 1159 Causeway Blvd. and at participating merchants.
Audrey and Josh Stewart, co-owners of Adventures in Paradise Outfitters and A Little Adventure boutique, proposed the idea of Sunrise Sale to the chamber last year and this year head up the event.
“Think of it as Black Friday, island style, with sunrise, coffee, and pajamas galore. There’s even a pajamas contest!” said Josh. “The Sunrise Sale has quickly become about more than finding the best deals of the year. It’s a fun morning when our island businesses, residents, and visitors all come together to enjoy the early morning atmosphere and celebrate that special sense of community that makes Sanibel, Sanibel. We’re looking forward to another morning of great deals, lots of laughs, and plenty of island camaraderie.”
