SURVEY RESULTS: Gas Powered Leaf Blowers

Sanibel City Council reviewed gas-powered leaf blower regulations in 2019 and enacted commercial use restrictions in December of the year. Reconsideration is not on the council’s agenda, but it was a topic in the recent council election campaigns and residents would like council to readdress the issue based on the results of a recent SantivaChronicle.com survey. Three-fourths of the responding readers said they are not happy with the current restrictions and more than two-thirds think the current restrictions are not enough and something more should be done.

  1. Examine a possible ‘muffler’ to add to current blowers until all go Electrical!!

  2. What about loud motorcycles and sports cars and diesel trucks and lawn mowers? Leaf blowers are a fraction of the noise on this island. Address the whole issue and not just a segment if you want to do it right.

    • Not the same at all. We don’t have trucks and motorcycles outside our bedroom windows at 10a. And, these vehicles (although also annoying) serve specific purposes other than blowing dust from one yard to another.
