The International Osprey Foundation invites the Sanibel and Captiva communities to participate in one of Southwest Florida’s most enduring nature cycles and help inform policy makers in vital ecosystem decision making.
Osprey nesting season in beginning and TIOF is recruiting volunteers to monitor nest territories on the islands, Fort Myers Beach, Pine Island and the surrounding areas. Witness and record the drama of Osprey family life unfolding as they build and defend their nests, raise and nurture their chicks and train their fledglings in life skills needed to survive perilous migrations.
Ospreys are especially sensitive to the health of the environment we share. As citizen scientists, the data you gather will be utilized in local and global databases to help determine the effectiveness of water quality and climate change actions.
TIOF provides training and supports a team approach. A kick-off meeting will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. Anyone interested in volunteering or who wants more information, can email tiof@outlook.com.
